This CALAMCO facility in Stockton, California can process and store over 80 million pounds of anhydrous ammonia for use as fertilizer by the farming cooperative’s members. The two distinctive storage domes you can see in the image can also be seen from the inside.
The CALAMCO plant is one of over 3,500 US factories producing chemicals. According to the EPA, the chemicals stored and produced by this facility could harm more than a million people in a worst-case accident. As usual, click the photo to visit.
I read some time ago about a process for making fertalizer from air. I understand it was abandoned when the Haber Bosch method of using natural gas came along, but was interested if anyone there was doing any research or new of research going on for this process. I am interested in forming a non-profit organization that would use recyled materials for small 3rd world applcations where wind and water power might be available.
